Surviving in a small space is manageable when you know how to make most of the square footage:

Conquer clutter

A small space will be more cramped when you have clutter all over. Do not be a hoarder so curb your clutter prior to moving in. You do not ask who gave, how long you have owned, or how much something is since these are all irrelevant but what you need to ask is how something enhances your life. If you have not used something for quite some time, give it up.

Find the right furniture

You need to lay out how you want the small space to look like before you move in. Find the furniture of the right size that is in good proportion to the size of the room. Before moving in, prepare by measuring the pieces and check if they fit well to the space.

Prioritize

When you are trying to manage a small space, you need to know how you want to allocate the space. Would you highlight the kitchen, your workspace, or maybe the living room? Think of function and do not be afraid to bend the traditional known arrangements of a home.

Maximize space

Use every portion of the small space you have. Plan how you will store things and make the space comfortable for you yet serving its purpose. It will be helpful if you lay out the arrangement on paper before you move in to save you all the hassle and trouble of re-arranging the furniture.

There are several reasons for this, in addition to being about to get back your security deposit.

If you leave your apartment in better shape than it was when you moved in, you greatly increase your chances of getting good references and recommendations from the landlord, which can be of enormous help when you rent your next space.

As well, sometimes you need to “kill them with kindness,” as it were. I am in a position right now where, having just moved in, the landlord and I have not exactly hit it off yet. He is something of a control freak and seems inclined to look down on and condescend to my fiance and I because we are young women. The apartment was a veritable mess when we moved in, and while in such cases, you sometimes want to be spiteful and leave it in the same condition, I am already planning to make sure it is sparkling, just so I can get in one last jab.

Face it, no one likes to clean. It is something that has to be done but it is not something that I think anyone actually likes to do. However – it something that needs to be done, especially when you are leaving your rental property to move into a new one.

If you are one of the many people that have left a security deposit, I think that you would want that back right? Well, leaving your home just as you found it – spic and span is a fantastic way to ensure that you will not only please your landlords, but you will also be able to get your money back!

Just a quick cleaning and then painting if you painted anything while you were in the apartment is something that should be done.
